The GCWD range of machines is the ultimate in line travel pipeline enamel application. Coal tar enamel coating can be applied to a normal total maximum thickness of 5/32" (4.0 mm). An inner coat wrap applied by the first wrapping head follows the first enamel coating and an outer wrap is applied by the rear head following the second enamel coating. The wrapping heads are configured to suit the customer's specified wrapping material (variable tension brakes are fitted as standard). The rear coating head may be removed and the machine operated as a single coat machine.
The GCWD main travel transmission has three forward speeds (four on GCWD 36-42 and up). The speed of the wrapping heads is synchronized with the travel speed, but the overlap of the wrapping material may be varied by use of the PIV (Variator). The hydraulic drive allows the coating and transfer pumps to maintain constant output. Coating application is performed by two 360° spray shoes, the front shoe having an auxiliary spray under the pipe. Positive traction is maintained by the standard mountain climber (lower articulated crawler).
